Celebrating 100 years of the US toaster!
Toasters may improve, but they will never go out of style. The first electric toaster was invented in 1893 by a company in Great Britain, Crompton and Co (UK). It was also 're-invented' in 1909 in the United States. However, it was not fully automatic in that it toasted one side of the bread at a time and also required someone to stand nearby and turn it off once the bread looked toasted. A man named Charles Strite invented the modern timer, 'pop-up' version of the toaster in 1919.
