Calphalon, initially named the Commercial Aluminum Cookware Company, was originally founded in 1963 with the purpose of manufacturing commercial aluminum cookware. However, 1968 was a turning point for the company, as it had utilized a process invented by NASA to make anodized aluminum cookware. These 'Calphalon' products were used by professional chefs, but were not introduced to the consumer market until 1975.
Calphalon eventually phased out its professional cookware line in order to offer their products to consumers. They also added bakeware and utensils to their line of quality cookware.
